It’s the Christmas season and love is in the air! What a time to be joyful and festive! It is also one of the times in the year when marriage proposals take place.

Anchors Aweigh

Christmas is also the season for wedding planning. The planning for destination weddings is also underway. These require having sufficient time built into the plans, for all the moving parts of such a huge endeavor. I know my native home, Jamaica, is among the top choices.

Check the Checklist

Wedding planning can be a nightmare…or not. The mindset and desires of the bride and her groom are what steer the ‘planning’ ship! The format, the theme, and the style of the wedding used to be the bride’s parents. After all, they commandeered the purse strings for the splendid affair.

However, time, people, and customs have drastically changed. Weddings are now customized by the bride herself. Tailored to her vision of her special day – within the limits of her finances of course.

The checklist can be both a blessing or a curse, depending on which side of the list you are on. A bride hoping to maintain control of the outcome of her vision, as well as her budget, will opt for the Do-It-Yourself planning checklist – the list within the list.

Saving the Date

Before every checklist is the save the date, the most important aspect of any wedding plan. Or is it? The answer lies with the bride.

Shutterfly lists the many reasons for sending a save the date. One of the reasons worth noting is that while not absolutely necessary, it lets your guests know ahead of time, not to have other plans for that day.  Wedding etiquette is the rule when guests are geographically scattered.

To Save Or Not To Save

Whether you are a DIY, or Wedding Planner Necessary kind of bride, the decision is yours. I, however, think it is exciting to be planning your future with your partner for life. You should take your time in planning each step that brings you closer to the day when you both say “I do”!

The first step in your planning, therefore, is to send a save the date card to your family and friends. You will be sharing the build-up of the excitement as you count down the days with your loved ones.  So, to save, or not to save? What is YOUR answer?!
