Check in with yourself every day. Why? Time has a way of moving, faster than we may have noticed. Do you find it unbelievable? Look at our children – grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Ever wondered when did they grow up and they have been right under our noses – the whole time?

Time. Never. Stops. Moving.

Our perception of time

We are aware of the passage of time. Our perception of time, however, differs from person to person. The difference is based on how much attention is given. Think of it like this – it is like watching a pot of water boiling. The water seems to boil much faster if your attention is not focused on it.

Notice when you were a child time seemed to pass very slowly. You could not wait to be grown up, so you could leave home, and do whatever it was you wanted to do.

Then you grew up. Now time seems to pass quite quickly.

But time is not speeding up. How you live your life is a factor. As we get older the world becomes a dreary and familiar place – so dreary and familiar that we stop paying attention to it.

Focused thinking

Time never stops moving which means life never stops moving. This means you will have to interrupt the flow every now and again. Focused thinking disrupts any current thought, and removes any distractions.

What you are really doing is interrupting your unconscious thoughts. Even though you are not consciously aware of them, you are making decisions from them.

Check in with yourself

You check in with yourself to measure your feelings and emotions. At any moment in time, do you know what, or how you are feeling?

Your emotions impact your present moment. As does your way of communicating. How many times have you received (or witnessed) a snapped response to a seemingly innocent, and totally harmless question?

Knowing how you are feeling, makes a difference in how you interact with those around you.

It is important to check in with yourself

It is important to make it a habit to check in with yourself throughout the day. At least twice each day.  Maybe morning and night. You are each a unique individual, and so the number of times per day will vary by person. The questions you choose will vary, as they too are also unique to you.

There are many questions from which you can choose, or you can create your own. The important thing is that you check in with yourself daily – as many times as you require. It is an important aspect of your emotional health.
