Who Am I

~ You are already that which you seek ~  Ramana Maharshi

Who Am I?  Really?

Hi all, I am Eve.

Eve is actually the middle name I was given at birth.  The decision behind my chosen name is a short story…I pinky swear promise.  It was based on the midwife who delivered me.  I was the last child for my parents, and the only baby in my family to be a home birth.  My dad would take my mom to the hospital, each time her contractions were frequently close together.

The hospital (back in those days in Jamaica), lacked enough beds for deliveries.  Each time my mom went in, she would be sent back home, as she was never close to birthing her baby.  She eventually got exhausted by the many trips and decided to just stay home and give birth.  A short story as I had pinky sworn.

Why Not My First Name?

I prefer to be called Eve.  My mom, who sadly passed away in 1996, would always call me Eve.  Except if I were in trouble, then I would hear both first AND middle names together as one word!  I am sure many of you can relate, as I have found many similarities among some cultures when it comes to parenting.

Eve is synonymous with “mother of all the living”, and the “first woman to live on earth”Eve is also symbolic of representing the female gender.  The name of my blog was therefore chosen to represent both my name and all women.

A woman’s mind absorbs a lot of information, as women generally manage multiple tasks all day long.  Women, therefore, have nonstop thoughts, and they range from normal to negative, from empowerment to depression, and from complicated to simple.

My Passion – for Reading

I LOVE to read!  The Kindle, (have had one for many years and have built a library of 400+ books), is the best thing ever for an avid reader like me.  It is ALWAYS with me.  Grabbing a few moments of reading whenever I get the chance, such as when I am waiting in line at the grocery store, is great!  I don’t have a preference for author or genre…I read any and all books.  As long as a book holds my attention, is enjoyable, and transports me to another place, I am in reader’s heaven.

My Passion – for Women

I absolutely LOVE being around and talking with women.  Talking ABOUT women is also something I love to do. NOT gossiping (I find that small-minded and destructive), but sharing lessons others have learned!  When I talk with a woman, I garner information.  She will share her thoughts about gaining her empowerment or finding her new strength.  I will share this information with another woman, who may be currently experiencing a similar situation.  Of course, I will omit personal and sensitive information.  THAT would be gossiping!

I share the information for the sole purpose of helping another woman.  For example, I would share resources for you to find help for a certain issue, or perhaps, tips to quickly resolve, or prevent the occurrence of a negative event.

My Passion – for Children and Dogs

You may wonder why I put these two categories together.  It is because of how I feel about both…they are both helpless and dependent…they both need support.  Children and dogs both need guidance and the provision of food and shelter.  Both are strongly influenced by how they are treated.  My hope is that they are both provided with strong and enriched foundations, so they can live happily and have fulfilled lives.

My small (for now) role is in volunteering my time.  I volunteer (during the school year as well as in Summer…learning to read fluently is ongoing) as a Reading Tutor with my local Reading Partners.  Every child learns at a different pace, and so I love the one-on-one tutoring.  These individual sessions empower them to achieve literacy growth.  I also volunteer (when I can) at Charleston Animal Society, my local “no-kill” animal shelter.  My wish is that more people would adopt, as there are far too many animals living in the shelter.

Join Me in Talks

Well, now that you know a little (alright, maybe a LOT lol) about me, how about you join me on this journey.  Let’s get together, you and me, to have some girl talk, and share our thoughts.  Total strangers at first, let us come together, help one another in informing, inspiring, supporting, empowering, and strengthening each other, and PAY IT FORWARD!
