I See Good In Everyone and So Should You

I see good in everyone and so should you. Why? Why not! We are all on this earth for a purpose. Every single one of us was not born by happenstance – I strongly believe that.

What do you think? Do you think that we come tumbling into this life because our parents got together to satisfy their own physical needs and then oops?! Well, maybe, because that’s the logistics of conception.

Seriously though, don’t you ever wonder about the reason you are here in this life? Absolutely no one is here by accident. We are each a unique individual – there is no other person quite like you.

Therefore, I believe, we are each here for a purpose that is unique to us. However, finding out what exactly is that purpose may take a lifetime to unveil.

Finding your purpose

Finding your purpose requires you to spend a significant amount of time with yourself. I mean really spend time getting to know you at a very deep level. You need to know who you truly are so you can know what path to take. Finding yourself is the first step.

For many years I have been following a path based on the expectations of others. The schools I have attended have all been chosen by my parents. Even the career field – teaching – was the expected choice.

The career choices for women in my culture at the time were nursing and teaching.

Dealing with blood, needles and sick people did not appeal to me – I am way too squeamish. However, I did gravitate towards teaching. I had already been teaching informally, helping, and supporting my classmates with their lessons. Unfortunately, the enjoyment of my chosen career was short-lived.

It was difficult to enjoy what I was doing as the reality of life kept pushing back at me. How do you live (survive) on a salary that is barely above minimum wage? You don’t – unless you lived with your parents. The time had come (actually it had already passed) to move out from living under my parents’ roof.

Decades and many unsatisfying jobs later, I “discovered” my purpose. It wasn’t my passion. My passion brought me opportunities to make an income. However, it was my purpose that brought me satisfaction in life and happiness.

My purpose came to me in reflection on the things I did daily. In turning from outward to inward, viewing my behavior objectively, I identified exactly what it was, and it just felt right. It all begins with not taking people at face value.  At least not accepting what you see externally. That is called judgment.

I see good in people

I see good in everyone, and so should you. Everyone with whom I come in contact has their own struggles. Each person is hiding something from the world. How they interact with the world can be impacted by the nature of their struggles.

Therefore, if someone acts rudely, I don’t react and respond rudely. What I do see is not the standard what we see in others is a reflection of ourselves. I am curious about, and try to get a sense of what is behind the person’s behavior.

Inherently, I believe everyone has good virtue. We mature chronologically – no matter what the beauty industry says or does, we really have no control over aging. However, psychological maturity is associated with our response to our environment and experience.

As unique individuals, we are each on our own unique journey. So when I meet someone, I don’t know what place they are on their journey, and so I’m encouraging. We all need someone to give us a boost.

I’ve had too many experiences where I’ve said what turned out to be the right words at the right time. Far too many to discount the impact. There is a reason for the saying hurt people, hurt people.

Let’s talk

In case you’re wondering, I’ve found my purpose through service. When I look back over my life, my greatest pleasure has always been in my engagement with others without the expectation of reciprocity.

Of course, it comes with the danger of being exploited. However, as with everything else in life, one learns from one’s experiences. At least one should.

Despite the many negative experiences, I have had many positive ones too. I had to learn to trust my judgment in discerning the intention of others. Determining the ones whose intention it is to exploit my generosity remains challenging. However, my desire to help is far too great for me to be deterred.

Each of us is going through life in our own way, and have our own personal challenges. So when you encounter another, even briefly, always keep that in mind. Be aware that individuals (even you) can unconsciously emit negative vibes because of what they may be currently going through.

Even on your darkest day, you know you are a good person. Can you trust that it is the same for every other person? All of us are just trying to carve out a life of our own.  We can each always use encouragement. This is why I see good in everyone and so should you.

Just imagine what our world would be like if we all did that?

Let’s talk!
