It is never too late is a phrase I am sure you have heard many times over. However, for whatever reason, you have dismissed it in disbelief. There is something to it though. So how about we take a closer look at it?

The meaning of never too late

This phrase has countless meanings, but its impact is only positive. Generally, the phrase is meant as encouragement and motivation.

Life, however, happens. As you live each day, you recognize that the things in your life are not aligned with what you feel is most important to you. So what do you do?

Many accept their life as it is, and nothing changes. For example, you may not like what you do each day, but you still keep at the job you hate. It pays the bills and that is all that matters. Or so you tell yourself.

Or, you are in an unsatisfying and unfulfilling relationship, yet you don’t leave. The reason that you stay is perfectly valid for you. Don’t think about being judged here. You are a unique individual, and your response to your situation is the only one that matters. No two people are the same so no two people will feel the same way, even about a similar situation.

Although the phrase is applicable in many situations, I want to focus on only one – changing your life. The life you are living now does not need to be the life you live forever. At any point, you can say “enough”, and start doing something else.

It is never too late

It is never too late for you to start doing something else. Need some motivation?

Do you know the name, Harland Sanders? Maybe you are more familiar with his franchise Kentucky Fried Chicken?

Well, Colonel Sanders founded his business at 65 years old. At this age, people are usually focused on retirement and social security benefits. They are definitely not thinking of starting up a business.

There are many late bloomers, not just Colonel Sanders. He is among many others, including Sam Walton who opened the first Wal-Mart at age 44. Then there is Samuel Jackson, a recovering drug (cocaine and heroin) addict, who had his breakout role at the age of 46 in Pulp Fiction.

This is only a snippet of information I have shared. Some examples of people, with whom you are familiar, who pursued their dreams late in life. Individuals who are living what is their best life, achieving success much later in life.

I have changed my course in life a few times. Whenever I find myself at a point, where things felt like a cycle of rinse and repeat but nothing changes, I would make a change. For example, at age 43, after surviving a stroke (thankfully without any long-term debilitation) I reflected on my life, what I had accomplished to date, and nothing stood out.

So what do I do after a near-death experience? Four months later I signed up to run a marathon – 26.2 miles! It took six months of training, but I went from a non-running, non-exercising person to a marathoner. Although it was my first, and the only marathon I ran, I can celebrate it as a lifetime highlight.

However, that was me, disrupting my previously mundane life. What about you?

Life is a journey and along the way, we need to live it fully. Are you living your best life?

Your age is never a factor. What you are choosing to do with your life is the key factor. Explore who you are – ask your network for feedback (I did and was truly enlightened by their responses), and really listen to what they share with you.

Let’s talk

What does the phrase mean to you? Do you think it’s too late for you to pursue any dreams you have had?

It is not.

Why?

Need proof?

Pinch yourself. Do you feel that pain? It indicates you are very much alive.

Each day you wake up, you have a brand new day with the opportunity to pursue any dreams you want in your life. Stop giving in to your fears.

Say “no’ to those fears, and “yes” to your dreams.

It is time to become YOU. Live your life to its fullest.

Let’s talk!
