It may sound quite simplistic, however, hearing the words it will be okay can have a huge impact at the moment. The situation you are in will not have changed. However, you may experience a sense of relief in your feelings about it.

Being in the midst of difficulties can cause much angst. At the moment you may not know what to do. What will be your next step is not even a thought yet formulated.

Hearing those words seems to clear away the fog in your brain. Once the fog clears it’s like the sun appearing from behind the clouds. You may not yet know what to do next, but it brings a great feeling of optimism.

Feeling optimistic

So, does feeling optimistic change anything? That’s a resounding YES! Of course, your situation remains unchanged. There’s no doubt about that.

However, there is a positive change from your previously negative emotional state. A feeling of optimism, even a sliver, can have such a great impact on your mood – even in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

We have all had to make adjustments because of the pandemic. I repeat, had to, because our choice, to do as we choose, has been either limited or taken from us entirely. The control of our own lives has become even more challenging – or has it?

Did you know that you have control over feeling optimistic?

Optimism is a choice

According to the Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry, research studies indicate optimism is a choice. Each participant practiced imagining their best possible self – for 5 minutes per day. The daily exercise was only for two weeks, but there was a significant increase in the participants’ optimism about their future.

Their optimism increased even after just one day.

Although choosing to be optimistic can be challenging, it is not impossible to accomplish. As with any change, it begins with a change in your thinking. Also, be prepared, your changed thinking may be very unpopular with your friends and family.

When you choose to think differently than others around you, there is going to be some push back. The funny thing is, you already think differently than others around you anyway. You are a unique individual, no one else is like you, so you already don’t think the same as others.

The change in your thinking can begin with the thought that no matter how good or bad, in time things will change. Remember that change is constant. There is power in positive thought.

It will be okay

If you’re facing a challenging situation, saying the words it will be okay to yourself, as a mantra, can redirect your thoughts – your feelings too. I find it soothing, even comforting when I repeat the mantra. What it does for me, is to remove me, albeit temporarily, from focusing on my difficult and challenging situation.

I am literally forced to push aside the negative thoughts that come with facing a difficult situation. Repeating the mantra breaks up my negative thinking. It allows me to feel good in thinking there is the possibility of a more positive future that awaits me – in time.

Let’s talk

The good feeling brought on by just saying the mantra is very encouraging to me. We need to be able to encourage ourselves because there may not always be someone around to encourage us.

Whatever the situation, good or bad, know that it is not permanent. Give it time. It will soon change.

There is great power in words of positivity. Repeating the words it will be okay daily, or as often as needed, is consciously breaking up your negative words. Negative self-talk can be quite destructive.

Repetition of positive words imprints and keeps them on your mind. Isn’t it amazing how you can choose to look at your life differently? Even while in the midst of a challenging situation? Did you know you can retrain your own mind to think positively?

Let’s talk!
