~ You may not be aware of it because it can be just a very low murmur, but there is always a running conversation going on in your mind. Heeding it can be either perilous or harmless. You must decide when taking action ~ talkswitheve

Have you ever wondered what is that still small voice? Where does it originate? Would you believe it is the voice of your gut feelings?

However, it is not a voice per se. You may consider it more to be your intuition, to which you have given words as a means of communicating with it. Don’t worry, it’s not as complicated as it sounds. Let me explain it a little further.

We all have an inner voice, and it is quite normal. It acts as your internal guide, a powerful GPS to guide the decisions you make. You should listen to it.

Listening to your inner voice

You can hear your inner voice even while you are thinking. Have you noticed it when you are reading silently? Some people must read aloud in order to stay focused on whatever it is that they are reading. That’s because we have more than 6,000 thoughts per day, a very dizzying amount, and for some people, that’s more than enough to manage at any one time.

Guided by your intuition, your inner voice is informing you of something instinctual for which you have no current knowledge. It’s having a feeling, good or bad, about something but you can’t quite put your finger on it. There is no explanation. At least not at that moment – maybe later you will experience that light bulb moment.

The question then is – should you heed that voice? Yes, you should and even if you cannot explain nor understand it – trust it.

Trusting your inner voice

Why should you be trusting your inner voice? First, you must learn about your inner voice. There is also your critical inner voice, and you do not want to give any space in your thinking to negativity.

The source of the negativity can go back to your childhood. Defining and understanding your critical inner voice may require professional help to sort through it. Or you can decide to talk back to it and work through it that way.

If you decide to do the latter, please don’t do it in public. Others will get the wrong impression of you.

Trusting your inner voice requires you to be more mindful of it. Trust comes with time and experience. Be mindful of what your inner voice is telling you and the outcome when you listen – or not.

In time you will be able to separate whether your inner voice is based on your gut instinct or your ego. They both sound the same. However, one will lead you astray – you will eventually know which one to disregard or trust.

As your personal compass, your inner voice is not something you will discover overnight and start trusting. Sometimes it is merely a feeling for which you have no words. Other times, it’s a whisper.

That still small voice

It’s called that still small voice as it can be very quiet – sometimes only a gentle whisper. However, it can be really loud, taking over your thoughts when the situation calls for it – when it’s urgent.

In those moments when you have that feeling of knowing yet not knowing, stop to listen. Meditation is a tool you can use to get to know and differentiate between your voices to know which one you can trust.

The more you listen, the more you will learn to trust your gut. You are a unique individual and how you build your relationship with your intuition will be unique to you. However, we all have intuition, that gut feeling that is our personal GPS.

Take the time to learn to trust your gut feeling. Get past your doubts and fears, and empower your life.
